Malta enjoys a democratic government with an elected president and two main political parties dominating the political arena.
Parliament is elected by the people every 5 years and since accession to the EU, Malta also has 6 candidates voicing its opinions in debates etc.
More recently, local councils have been introduced with no additional tax burden to the people. These have served to better the environment to the gratification of both locals and tourists alike.
